How do I clean a white powdery residue on a leather watch strap?

I can only wear leather bracelets. Every few days I noticed a whitish Color – it looks almost like a powder – into the cracks in the leather on the inside of the band and also the coloring of the seam on the outside of the band. It appears only on the piece the band with the buckle. I wash it with some manual cleaning to remove it, even if it does not all go away. Why is that? And it is strange that it only on the buckle Half of the band appears. I thought it was the salt from sweat, but why only part of the band and also on the outside seams? Anyone ever experience this?
